I don’t know about you, but I'm certainly a big fan of both food and smelling good. However, it never occurred to me that I can achieve a more pleasant body odour by perfecting my diet. It’s kind of amazing how the bacteria our bodies harbour turns what we eat into odours. I was fascinated to discover that some foods contain capsaicin, a compound that tricks the body into thinking you’re hot, causing you to sweat more and unfortunately smell a little grim…

You smell what you eat

I’ve also learnt that the smells of what you eat linger on your body – again, in the form of our stinky old enemy sweat. So maybe skip that onion topping on your hot dog if you want to avoid smelling like fast food all day. In short, stinky food equals stinky you and stinky you is NOT sexy you.

This article will work as part one of a two-week help sheet of what to eat and what not to eat. Today, I will suggest to you 3 fruit-based items which are great for your odour, and two foods you should definitely avoid if you want to smell hella good. So, hold your cutlery, and let's dig right into this!

Apple

With summer on the horizon, fruit naturally becomes a focal point in many people’s diets. Luckily, many fruits such as juicy apples are not only a great source of vitamins but also a great way to keep your breath fresh – and in a yummy way. This is because apples have natural cleaning properties. So, bite that apple Snow White!

Orange & Grapefruit

Continuing on the fruity vibe, I recommend both orange and grapefruit! Two citrusy smells that are easily absorbed into the body. Their quick absorption means they’re a quick fix to nasty odours that you simply don’t want.

Lemon Water and Herbal Tea

It’s already widely known that drinking water is brilliant for you but, it can also eliminate toxins that cause bad odour. Pop a lemon in a glass of water to unleash the antioxidants that help detoxify your body. Herbal tea is another great source of antioxidants; I personally love peppermint tea with sliced lemon to maximise the health benefits of the two.

Chili Pepper, Onion and Garlic

Garlic, onion and chilli pepper produce substances that are eliminated by sweat. That’s not even the end of it – these odours are also expelled through the lungs, creating a strong stink from the body and the mouth.

Asparagus

During the digestion of asparagus, a residue called asparagine (an amino acid) is produced, which is odorous and actively participates in the formation of intestinal gases. For this reason, asparagus changes the smell of sweat and urine making them smell even worse than they already do...

Smelling good with Maison 21G
