The Wonders of Mimosa Fragrance

Blossoming Mimosa.

When we say Mimosa, you may start thinking of mimosa cocktails.... however, we want to divert your attention to the plant itself, and not just the name!

A sunny ingredient that is simply a springtime feast for all your senses, and truly a classic scent of timeless elegance! Known as Mimosa, Acacia Dealbata, by its scientific name, Cassie or just Acacia; the fluffy, intricate yellow, feathery pom-pom flowers, are striking in their appearance, whilst also having the ability, to lighten and fill each and every corner of your room with dreamy, sweet aromatics!

Although floral, the smell of Mimosa does not necessarily match its appearance. Instead, its distinctive, fresh, sweet, and warm notes, are complimented with subtle dry, powdery accords, some reminiscent to facets of almond, honey, and violet. The scent also unravels super addictive facets of plum, hints of amber, and even a splash of fresh cucumber.

A  prized ingredient for renowned noses, they absolutely adore integrating touches of this beautiful floral into their compositions. Found in some of the most iconic and luxurious fragrances, from Coco by Chanel, to Pour Femme by Bulgari, Une Fleur de Cassie by Frederic Malle, and Mimosa by Fragonard, only to name a few… so why should you hold back?!

A Little History

Mimosa Flowers.

Originating in Australia and the Pacific, these almost fluorescent in colour, pod-bearing, and fast-growing shrubs and trees, were first brought to Europe in 1820, as initially a decorative plant for the gardens. With the typical ‘first bloom’ to begin as early as January, the flowers of Mimosa are especially known to thrive in the mild winters of the Mediterranean coast.

More specifically, those who have visited the Tanneron hills, west of the perfume capital, Grasse; would agree, that what would the early months of spring be without the luxurious landscape of the golden yellow flowers.

Having had a long-standing tradition in perfumery, Mimosa’s use in perfumery dates back to the ancient world, where all aspects of the plant, the bark, roots, and the resin, were used as incense for rituals in Nepal, India, and China. Moreover, Mimosa was regarded as the symbol of resurrection and immortality, as Egyptian mythology linked the acacia tree with the tree of life, having described it in "The Myth of Osiris and Isis".

For centuries, the Mimosa tree has also been popularly used for its medical benefits, including supporting gut health, treating skin issues, relieving stress, supporting mental health, whilst also being rich in antioxidants. Moreover, the seeds and fruit are edible and have been used in many cuisines and soft drinks. To add on, the bark produces a gum that is not only used as a stabiliser, but also for the production of printing and ink. Thus, it is an all-around useful ingredient and one that is dreamily scented too!

Process of Extraction

Mimosa Flowers.

With 400 different species, some even with shades of pink and purple; it is specifically the Acacia Decurren, the yellow shrub, that is most familiar to our eyes, that is used in perfumery!

Once harvested, the flowers have to be processed as quickly as possible before they fade. However, as the chemical components of Mimosa are too delicate, with the high risk of easily being denatured in the high heat of steam distillation, the process of solvent extraction must be adopted for Mimosa’s oil.

Expensive, and low-yielded, it is approximated that 40 tonnes of flowers, produces around 400kg (880 pounds) of a rock-like substance, known as ‘concrete’, which is then purified to only 100 kg of ‘absolute’!

Our Recommended Mixes

Our first suggestion would be a mix of our MIMOSA MANTRA perfume, along with our ozonic signature, the scent of OCEAN ODYSSEY. A combo that will produce a perfume of the fresh Mediterranean, the spring air of the Cote d'Azur. Floral, bright, fresh, with a burst of the oceans capsule, all integrated into one. A perfect fragrance for easy, uplifting, everyday wear!

For a sexier elixir, we suggest the blend of MIMOSA MANTRA with the scent of HONEY HAVEN. Sensual, elegant, sweet, yet not overpowering, and very distinctive. This is a fragrance that will really get the heads turning once sprayed onto your naked skin! Try it for yourself, and you’ll be thanking us later…

If you seek a fragrance to be worn like a second skin, a scent that will comfort you throughout the day: then MIMOSA MANTRA and our MUSK MIRAGE perfume would be perfect for you. Warm, delicate, soothing, creamy, and tender. Be warned, it's seriously addictive!

Lastly, a scent that would be most suitable for our charismatic male audience, would be MIMOSA MANTRA in combination with our CEDAR CAVIAR fragrance. An intriguing blend of juxtaposed scents; one soft and light, and the other, strongly magnetic; to create conclusively a charming potion for any man!
